Which PLC software should you learn for the Gulf?
Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell Studio 5000, in that order for most of the region. Between them they cover the majority of UAE and GCC industrial installations. Everything else on this list is worth recognising, but those two are what job adverts name.

Do you need to learn all ten?
No — and trying to is a common mistake. IEC 61131-3 standardises the programming languages, so once you can write ladder and structured text in one environment, the concepts transfer. What changes is the interface, the addressing and the tag handling. Learn two properly rather than ten superficially.
Which is best for self-study?
CODESYS, because it is free and genuinely standards-based, and Factory I/O paired with a PLC to give you something to control. See 12 ways to practise at home and 8 simulators compared.
Is vendor certification worth paying for?
Sometimes — but check what employers actually verify. Our guide to certifications recognised by Gulf employers covers which ones carry weight.
