What is the best PLC simulator for learning?
For most people, Factory I/O paired with a soft PLC or real controller, because it gives you a 3D process that reacts to your logic and fails in believable ways. If cost is the constraint, CODESYS is free, standards-based and genuinely capable. The rest suit specific vendors or budgets.

What can a simulator not teach you?
Everything physical. Wiring errors, loose terminals, earthing and screening problems, electrical noise, panel heat, and the discipline of working safely on a live system. A simulator will never give you a reading that is wrong because the screen is earthed at both ends. Treat simulation as logic practice and hardware time as a separate, non-optional requirement — which is why our cohorts cap at 12, so the panels are actually available.
